His Holiness Gyalwa Karmapa XVII Trinley Thaye Dorje

Karmapa is the first consciously incarnate Lama of Tibet. Starting from the XII century, he is the spiritual head of the Karma Kagyu tradition of Buddhism. His seventeenth incarnation, Trinley Thaye Dorje, was born in Tibet on May 06, 1983. In March 1994, Kunzig Shamar Rinpoche, the second important Lama in the Karma Kagyu lineage, officially recognized him as the seventeenth incarnation of Gyalwa Karmapa.

Since 1999, His Holiness Gyalwa Karmapa XVII travels to different countries where he gives Buddhist teachings and empowerments. His Holiness Karmapa XVII Trinley Thaye Dorje visited the Russian Federation in June 2009 at the invitation of Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, the head of the Republic of Kalmykia. He visited six cities where he met with Russian Karma Kagyu practitioners and officials including the head of Buddhist Traditional Sangha in Russia Khambo Lama Damba Ayusheyev.

His Holiness Gyalwa Karmapa is the spiritual leader of more than 900 monasteries and meditation centres all around the world including the Karmapa International Buddhist Institute (KIBI) where English speaking practitioners can get Buddhist education according to the Karma Kagyu tradition.

Maniwa Sherab Gyaltsen Rinpoche

Maniwa Sherab Gyaltsen Rinpoche is the Lama of the Karma Kagyu Lineage famous for his various activities. The Maniwa title is given to masters who practice meditation on the Bodhisattva Loving Eyes (Avalokiteshvara) having reached minimum one billion OM MANI PEME HUNG mantra recitations together with their disciples.

Sherab Gyaltsen Rinpoche got initiations in Rumtek from the Sixteenth Karmapa Ranjung Rigpe Dorje. At the moment he supports the work of the Karma Kagyu lineage giving Buddhist teachings and empowerments both in the East and West.

Lama Ole Nydahl

Ole Nydahl was born in 1941 in Copenhagen. His wife Hannah and he went to their honey moon trip to Nepal in 1968 where they met the Sixteenth Karmapa, one of the greatest meditation masters of the XX century. For several years they had been learning from him and some other outstanding teachers of Tibetan Buddhism. Later Karmapa asked Ole and Hannah to return to Europe to spread Buddha’s teachings and establish meditation centres.

At the present moment Lama Ole Nydahl guides meditation courses and gives lectures in different countries travelling around the world two times a year. Thanks to his activity, 680 Buddhist centres were founded, 80 of them are in Russia. These centres work under the spiritual guidance of His Holiness the Seventeenth Karmapa Trinley Thaye Dorje.
